ODD TIPS

  • When viewed in a glass vitrine, skilfully modelled, then sprayed using automotive cellulose paints, Blu-Tack is almost indistinguishable from bronze.
  • If you need to have something fabricated, but the quote is above your budget, ask the fabricators if you can do some of the work yourself in order to lower the price.
For example, if you need something sprayed and lacquered, much of the labour/price is due to preparation sanding. This is something anyone can do easily, but takes time. Most fabricators are willing to strike a deal/compromise.
  • Expanding foam sticks to a wet surface better than a dry – it even works as glue!
  • When casting in Jesmonite, mix 2-3 parts powder to 1 part water.
¬ Unlike cement, Jesmonite is not able to dry on sloped surfaces.
¬ Jesmonite can be layered easily by applying fibreglass matting between coats.
¬ Apply with a paintbrush to get an even surface.
¬ Jesmonite can be used to resemble any texture.
