PLASTER

  • Plaster is quick and easy to use and relatively light.
  • It is usually set in a mould or modelled while still wet.
  • Mix casting plaster into water – never the other way around.
  • As plaster sets it gets hot – don’t cast body parts with it!
  • Once dry, plaster is soft and brittle so it is best to build your work around a support system or armature.
  • Dip lengths of scrim/hessian/jute into wet plaster and then drape around armatures/objects – this creates extra strength in the plaster.
